Anguilla

Best for luxury and beaches

Anguilla has some of the most luxurious hotels and resorts in the entire Caribbean. It is home to five top tier luxury resorts and countless deluxe villas, a favorite way to stay on the island.

The five Anguilla properties that are ranked among the Top 50 Resorts in the Caribbean Islands on the Condé Nast Traveler 2018 Readers Choice Awards are: The Reef by CuisinArt; Belmond Cap Juluca; Malliouhana, An Auberge Resort; the Four Seasons Resort & Residences; and Zemi Beach House Hotel & Spa.

A boutique hotel perfectly positioned in the middle of Meads Bay, Frangipani Beach Resort was also voted the No. 1 property in the Caribbean, Bermuda, and the Bahamas by Travel + Leisure readers in the 2018 World’s Best Awards.

Swimming and snorkeling

If you want to stay put at your hotel, we wouldn’t blame you. But — and this is a big but — you’d be missing out on exploring one of the Caribbean’s best islands for beaches.

Anguilla has 33 beautiful beaches to spare, each with a different charm, all with glistening white sand and aquamarine waters. If you are not staying at Zemi Beach House, rent a chair from one of the many restaurants near the main entrance of Shoal Bay East, which has unbeatable snorkeling.

Half-mile long Savannah Bay (also called Junks Hole Bay) is also known for snorkeling; a small reef protects the beach.

For the ultimate castaway experience, visit Little Bay, accessibly only by boat or by shimmying down a rope slung over a cliff.

Meads Bay, home to the Four Seasons, Frangipani, and Malliouhana, is a two-mile long beach that has great waves.

Do not miss soaking your feet in the aquamarine waters of Rendezvous Bay, a crescent of powder white sand that’s as fine as any on Anguilla.

And those are just a few suggestions!

The finest dining

No doubt about it... Anguilla delivers the finest dining in the Caribbean. Its chefs have gold medals from the "Best of the Caribbean" contests to prove it.

Delivering a five-star experience with five-star ingredients is no easy feat on a small island where everything is imported. Anguilla's restaurateurs pull it off with aplomb. More often than not, exploring the full menus at Anguilla's high-end restaurants yields fascinating finds.

The Straw Hat is one of Anguilla’s best restaurants for a lobster dinner, appreciated by both locals and resort guests.

If you’re craving a toes-in-the-sand experience, nothing beats the Falcon Nest Bar & Grill on the East End in Island Harbour. The menu is simple — grilled chicken, BBQ ribs, fried fish — but priced right and delicious and the lobster is caught just offshore.

Sunshine Shack is your quintessential laid-back Caribbean beach bar. Garvey Lake’s red, yellow, and green-painted restaurant occupies a prime stretch of Rendezvous Bay, so come wearing your swimsuit and armed with towels. After a lunch of ribs and fries, you can take a quick swim and have a rum punch for dessert.

The colorful little beach bar Palm Grove Bar & Grill at Savannah Bay is another great place to split the lobster and crayfish combo around a rum punch.

Is your mouth watering yet?

To get there

There are two popular options. One is to fly into Princess Juliana International Airport in St. Maarten, serviced by major airlines including Delta, Jet Blue, and American, and then take either the public ferry or a private boat charter over to Blowing Point, Anguilla. Calypso Charters and Fun Time are two reliable charter companies.
Alternatively, travelers can fly to Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport in San Juan, Puerto Rico, and connect to Anguilla on Seaborne Airlines.

Health wise

The World Health Organization (WHO) has removed its ZIKA virus country classification scheme, which categorized most of the Caribbean territories, including Anguilla, as areas having active ZIKA virus transmission.

Looking for luxury and sheer pleasure? Anguilla might just be it, including for an exchange of vows or to spend a honeymoon!
