La vie en rose at the Heritage Harbour House

From Grafton Street, walk three minutes to the right and you will reach the seaside promenade. Or, walk to the left for the same 3 minutes and find yourself on Queen Street in downtown Charlottetown.

The Heritage Harbour House Inn and its neighbor, the Sonata Inn, are in ideal central locations to discover and enjoy the charming capital city of Prince Edward Island.

A good start with a substantial breakfast

The owner, Michael van der Gaag, describes his establishment as a “haven-breakfast” even though it could be considered a boutique hotel with its 32 rooms or a B&B as advertised on the doorpost. Once you are sitting at the breakfast table, you will immediately understand why.

The selection is impressive and everyone will find something to suit their taste: a choice between two hot plates an omelet with different fillings every day or waffles or pancakes served with real maple syrup; then a wide selection of cereal, fresh fruits, yogurt, muffins, homemade cookies and croissants and buns. Quite a mix of enchanting smells…

Decide to eat alone at a separate table or to sit at the community table with other guests. All tables have lovely tablecloths.

Feel the need for a snack late in the afternoon after an excursion or before going to bed? Cookies, coffee, tea, herbal tea or bottled water are always accessible in the kitchen. Just like home!

Even better than home

Wi-Fi is free in all rooms as well as in public areas. And the library has a computer and printer on hand if you feel like breaking your promise to not read emails and truly switch off… The sun coming in from windows on all sides of the room might be the only witness to your transgression!

Flawless, classic comfort

The two houses that constitute Heritage Harbour House are Victorian with beautiful wood paneling from floor to ceiling and sculpted stairways.

They were refurbished to offer all modern comforts. The bedrooms are large, each with a private full bathroom and can accommodate up to 5 guests, since most of them have a hide-a-bed sofa in addition to one or two large beds.

Suites even have a kitchenette. The welcome at the desk as well as in the breakfast room is discreet and warm, just like at home. The personnel are always happy to recommend good restaurants at night.

The garden or the balcony?

A few bedrooms have a private balcony. All guests can enjoy the large garden and even enjoy their meal outdoors.

Lovely surprise

The rates are surprisingly reasonable and are given for the room per night and not per person.

We highly recommend this charming urban refuge that is respectful of privacy in pleasant Charlottetown.
