Jazz at Sea

In the Gulf of Mexico

For 16 years now, jazz and cruise lovers have been able to combine these two passions.

Jazz and the best

In 2018, no less than 100 musicians will perform aboard the Celebrity Summit cruise ship, offering 300 hours of music during a promising week.

From Fort Lauderdale, regular cruise enthusiasts will be delighted to hear Houston Person, Jeff Clayton, John Pizzarelli, Jeff Hamilton, Ken Peplowski, Wycliffe Gordon, Gary Smulyan, Randy Brecker and Lewis Nash, as well as Arturo Sandoval, Monty Alexander, Joey DeFrancesco, Anat Cohen, Benny Green, Trio da Paz, Kurt Elling, Ann Hampton Callaway and Byron Stripling.

Great discoveries are also on the program with the fabulous hard-bop group The Cookers, pianist Renee Rosnes, the Brecker Brothers Band Reunion (with Randy Brecker and Will Lee), trumpeter Sean Jones, the vocal group The New York Voices and singer and bassist Nicki Parrott. Bassist John Clayton, a Grammy winner, will lead the All-Star Big Band for the first time, while composer, pianist, arranger and producer Shelly Berg will continue to serve on board as music director.

Promising port of calls

Add a 27-hour stopover in New Orleans, the home of jazz in America, for concerts, special events, guided tours, and not to mention the Creole cuisine at a few well-known tables in the French Quarter. And for an experience that promises to be a highlight of the trip, the Preservation Hall Jazz Band, a venerable institution of New Orleans, will be invited on the boat for two concerts.

Another stopover is also planned in Cozumel for a nature-filled day with beaches, the Mayan ruins of Tulum and a magnificent seabed to explore.

The cruise ship

The Celebrity Summit, a sumptuous boat that offers five-star service and stylish cabins, is hosting this week's music. Special menus prepared by award-winning chef James Beard, one of the most luxurious spas in the sea, the Canyon Ranch Spa Club, and a new terrace, offering cinema under the stars, are ideal complements for this unique offer that is called the "biggest jazz festival at sea".
